Why WhatsApp rejects — or ruins — your video
WhatsApp has two different video paths. Send from the gallery and the app re-encodes the clip for chat: the default cap is about 100 MB on a fast connection (64 MB when the network is slow), and quality often drops again on the way. Send as a document and the file can be up to 2 GB with no chat re-encode — but the other person has to download it before they can watch. Most “video too large” errors are just the media path, and many old guides still quote a 16 MB limit that no longer matches WhatsApp’s own help center. Compressing first — to a real target size — keeps you under the cap, keeps playback instant in chat, and stops you from over-squeezing a clip that would have fit anyway.
