§01 Audio Cutter

What people fix in an audio file

A podcast intro that runs ten seconds too long, a ringtone that needs the chorus and nothing else, a voice memo recorded too quietly, a meeting recording where the first two minutes are everyone joining the call. The audio editor above takes an MP3, WAV or M4A — or a video file, if the sound is trapped inside one — lets you select the exact range, adjust the volume and add a fade, then exports a clean file. No watermark, nothing to install.

§02 What the Controls Do

Common audio edits and how to make them

Each row is a real job you can run with the controls above — select the range, set the effect, export.

The fixWhat you doControls
A ringtone from a songYou need thirty seconds of the chorus, not the whole trackSet Start and End around the section — export MP3 at 320 kbps
A loud or quiet recordingThe file plays at half the volume of everything around itVolume slider — up to 200% to lift it, 50% to tame it
An abrupt beginning or endingAudio that cuts in hard or stops dead sounds unfinishedFade in and Fade out — applied on export
A voice memo with dead airSilence before the first word, after the lastTrim the Start and End to the spoken range
Sound trapped in a videoThe interview only exists as an MP4Upload the video directly — the audio is extracted and editable in one pass

Volume accepts 0–300% (100% is untouched); fades are applied during export. Uploads accept MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG and FLAC as well as common video formats. Limits checked October 2026.

§03 How It Works

How to cut audio online

Three steps in the browser — no DAW to install, no watermark on the export.

  1. STEP 1

    Upload audio or video

Drop in an MP3, WAV, M4A or another audio file — or a video, if the sound you want lives inside a recording. The preview loads in the page.

  2. STEP 2

    Select the range and effects

Drag the handles to keep the exact section, move the volume slider if the level is off, and tick Fade in or Fade out for a smoother start or end.

  3. STEP 3

    Export the file

Choose MP3, WAV or M4A and press Export audio. Download the result — same session, no watermark, nothing to install.

§04 File Size Math

How big will the exported file be?

Size depends on the output format more than on the edit. Same one-minute clip, four formats:

Output formatTypical setting≈ Size per minute
MP3160 kbps (page default)≈ 1.2 MB
MP3320 kbps (top quality)≈ 2.4 MB
M4A (AAC)128 kbps≈ 1 MB
WAV (16-bit stereo, 44.1 kHz)Uncompressed≈ 10.1 MB
Any formatLonger input, proportionally larger outputSize scales linearly with length

WAV keeps every sample but costs about eight times the MP3. For sharing, MP3 at 160 kbps is the default here; WAV matters when the file will be edited again later.

§05 How the Editor Behaves

What actually happens on export

The selected range is cut, the effects are applied, and the result is encoded once into the format you picked. A few details worth knowing before you start.

One range per export

You keep one continuous section per pass — Start and End on the timeline. Chopping out a middle piece takes two exports; everything else is a single pass.

Volume is part of the encode

The slider (0–300%) is applied while the file is re-encoded, so the new level is baked in — no player settings to remember afterwards.

Fades are true fades

Fade in ramps the beginning up from silence; Fade out ramps the ending down. Both are applied to the exported file, not just the preview.

Video sources are welcome

Upload a video and the sound is extracted first, then edited in the same job. If you only want the raw extraction with no edits, use the video-to-MP3 converter instead (linked below).

§06 FAQ

Audio cutter FAQ

Answers before you cut.

What formats can I upload?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG and FLAC audio files, plus common video formats (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI) when the sound you need is inside a video.

Will cutting change the audio quality?

The export re-encodes the selected section into the format you choose. MP3 at 160–320 kbps is inaudibly close to the source for most listeners; choose WAV if the file will be edited again later.

Can I remove a section from the middle?

Export one range, then export the other — the tool keeps one continuous section per pass. That keeps the timeline simple and the cut exact.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes. The timeline, volume slider and format buttons all work with touch in a mobile browser — no app to install.

Is there a watermark or usage limit?

No watermark. Guests can process one file per day up to 250 MB; signing in brings monthly credits for more and larger files.

What is the difference between MP3 and WAV output?

MP3 compresses the sound (about 1.2 MB per minute at 160 kbps) and plays everywhere. WAV keeps every sample uncompressed (about 10 MB per minute) and is meant for further editing.

Can I edit the audio from a video directly?

Yes — upload the video and the audio is extracted and edited in one pass. If you do not need any edits, the video-to-MP3 converter is the shorter path.

Cut the audio down to the part you need

Upload, select, export — MP3, WAV or M4A, free and no watermark.
