§01 Video to GIF

Why turn a video into a GIF

A short loop says more than a screenshot: a UI trick, a reaction, a product detail, a punchline. GIFs paste straight into chat threads, docs, and social posts without a play button or a heavy MP4. Pick the exact moment, set a width that will not blow up the conversation, and download an animated GIF. Free, no watermark, nothing to install.

§02 GIF Basics

What makes a good loop

GIF is an old format with real limits. These choices keep yours crisp and small.

KnobWhat it doesSweet spot
Clip lengthLonger clips mean many more frames1–5 seconds is ideal
WidthPixel width drives file size hard320–480 px for chat; 640 for docs
FPSMore frames per second = smoother and bigger8–12 is usually enough
ContentBusy backgrounds explode the paletteClear subject, simple scene
SoundGIF has no audio trackKeep the story visual

If you need video quality, stickers with sound, or a full-length recording, keep the MP4. GIF is for short visual punches — not for replacing video. Limits checked October 2026.

§03 How It Works

How to make a GIF from a video

Three steps in the browser. No After Effects, no Photoshop timeline.

  1. STEP 1

    Upload the video

Drop in an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV. Preview it in the page and note where the moment starts and ends.

  2. STEP 2

    Set the clip and size

Optional start and end in seconds isolate the moment. Choose width (320–640) and FPS (8–20) to balance sharpness and size.

  3. STEP 3

    Download the GIF

Press Create GIF. In a moment you get a ready-to-share animated GIF — no watermark, nothing to install.

§04 Pick Your Format

GIF or something else?

Each format has a job. This table avoids a second export.

You want…FormatWhy
A looping visual for chat / docsGIF (this tool)Plays inline everywhere, no player UI
Smooth playback with soundMP4 videoBetter quality and much smaller than GIF
A single frame or thumbnailScreenshot / frame exportNo animation overhead
Transparent animated stickerGIF with care (or WebP/APNG elsewhere)Classic GIF transparency is limited
Short vertical for socialMP4 9:16 (Reels / Shorts)Platforms prefer video, not GIF

Trim the video first if you need a cleaner source, or resize the MP4 if the clip is huge — then convert the short segment to GIF.

§05 In This Tool

What the GIF maker does

A focused video-to-GIF converter with the two controls that actually change the output: which seconds, and how many pixels wide.

Trim to the moment

Start and end in seconds. Keep it short — every extra second multiplies frames.

Width that fits the chat

320–480 px for messaging apps; 640 when the GIF lives in a doc or a slide.

FPS for smoothness vs size

8–12 FPS feels fine for UI and reactions. Go higher only if motion matters and the file stays light.

Free, no watermark

Guests can create GIFs daily without signing in. Signed-in users get monthly credits for longer or more frequent jobs.

§06 FAQ

Video to GIF FAQ

Answers before you loop.

How long should a video clip be for a GIF?

One to five seconds is the sweet spot. Longer clips create many more frames and the file size climbs fast. If you need more than a few seconds, consider keeping it as video.

Why is my GIF so large?

Width, FPS and motion are the usual causes. Drop the width to 320–480 px, lower FPS to 8–12, and shorten the clip. Busy backgrounds and cuts add a lot of weight.

Does a GIF include sound?

No. The GIF format has no audio track. Pick a moment that reads visually — expressions, gestures, UI changes, motion.

What video formats can I upload?

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and other common containers. The output is always an animated .gif file.

Can I make a GIF from my phone?

Yes. The page works in mobile browsers — upload the clip, set start/end and size, then download the GIF. Large files may take longer on a slow connection.

GIF vs MP4 for social — which should I post?

Most feeds and short-form apps prefer MP4. GIF is ideal for Slack/Discord threads, docs, GitHub comments, and anywhere a silent loop should just play.

Is there a watermark or limit?

No watermark. Guests can process one file per day up to 250 MB; signing in brings monthly credits for more and larger files.
