§01 Video to MP3

Why pull the audio out of a video

A lecture, a podcast published as video, an interview recording, a song in a music video — half the time you only need the sound. An MP3 is a fraction of the size, plays in every music app, keeps working when the screen is off, and slots into an editing timeline or a transcription tool without dragging the picture along. Upload a video above, pick a quality, and download the audio as an MP3 — the picture is discarded, nothing else changes.

§02 Pick a Quality

Which MP3 bitrate should you choose?

Higher bitrate means better sound and a bigger file. Match the choice to what you are extracting, not to a bigger-is-better habit.

What is inside the videoWhat mattersPick this
Speech — lectures, meetings, interviewsClarity of voice; file size barely matters at these lengths128 kbps — perfectly clean for talking
Podcasts & screencasts with narrationLong listens where a slightly richer voice helps160 kbps — the default on this page
Music — songs, performances, soundtracksCymbals and bass reveal low bitrates fast320 kbps — the top of the MP3 range
Soundbites & samples for editingYou will re-encode it later anyway160 kbps — good middle ground
Ringtones & alarmsTen seconds of audio — size is irrelevant320 kbps — keep every bit

All three presets (128 / 160 / 320 kbps) are available on this page. The step from 128 to 320 roughly triples the file — for spoken content you will not hear the difference, for music you might. Limits checked October 2026.

§03 How It Works

How to convert a video to MP3 online

Three steps in the browser — no software, no account needed for a first conversion.

  1. STEP 1

    Upload the video

Drop in an MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV or AVI. The preview loads in the page so you can confirm it is the right file before converting.

  2. STEP 2

    Choose the bitrate

Pick 128, 160 or 320 kbps using the quality buttons. 160 suits most uses; go up for music, down for long speech.

  3. STEP 3

    Download the MP3

Press Convert to MP3 and the audio track is extracted in the cloud. Download a standard MP3 that plays in any music app, car stereo or phone — no watermark, nothing to install.

§04 File Size Math

How big will the MP3 be?

MP3 size ≈ bitrate × duration. Use this before you convert so the result is not a surprise.

Audio lengthAt 128 kbpsAt 320 kbps
30 seconds≈ 0.5 MB≈ 1.2 MB
1 minute≈ 1 MB≈ 2.4 MB
5 minutes≈ 5 MB≈ 12 MB
10 minutes≈ 10 MB≈ 24 MB
1 hour (lecture)≈ 58 MB≈ 144 MB
Full video of any lengthScales linearly — double the time, double the fileSame rule, three times the rate

Numbers assume constant-bitrate MP3 with no silence optimization. 160 kbps — the default here — sits between the first two columns: about 1.2 MB per minute.

§05 What Actually Happens

Extracting audio, without surprises

Conversion here is a straight extraction: the video stream is dropped, the audio stream is decoded once and re-encoded as MP3. A few things worth knowing before you start.

Videos with no audio cannot convert

Screen recordings without a microphone track have nothing to extract. This page checks the file after upload and tells you before the job runs, instead of failing halfway through.

MP3 is a re-encode, not a copy

The source audio (usually AAC) is decoded and compressed again into MP3. At 320 kbps the difference from the original is inaudible for almost everyone; at 128 kbps speech still sounds natural.

Only one range per pass

Need just the middle five minutes of a two-hour recording? Trim the video first, then convert — or convert the whole thing and cut the MP3 afterwards. Both paths use the tools linked below.

Length is not limited

Guests convert one video per day up to 250 MB. Signed-in plans handle files up to 1 GB (larger on paid tiers) with monthly credits covering the runtime.

§06 FAQ

Video to MP3 FAQ

Answers before you extract the audio.

How do I convert MP4 to MP3?

Upload the MP4 to the converter on this page, choose a bitrate, and download the MP3. The whole thing runs in the browser — no desktop software and no account for a first conversion.

Does converting to MP3 lose quality?

The MP3 is a new compression of the original audio, not a bit-perfect copy. At 320 kbps the loss is inaudible for nearly all listeners; at 128 kbps spoken word still sounds clean. Choose the bitrate that fits your use.

What video formats can I upload?

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and most other common video formats. The audio comes out as a standard MP3 that plays everywhere.

Can I convert only part of a video?

This tool extracts the audio from the full file. To take one section, trim the video first (link below) and convert the trimmed clip — or convert everything and cut the MP3 with the audio editor.

Is it safe to upload my file?

Files are processed for the conversion and download links expire after about 24 hours. Guests are limited to one video per day so the service stays fast for everyone.

Can I do this on my phone?

Yes. The page works in mobile browsers — upload, pick a bitrate and download the MP3 without installing an app.

What is the difference between video to MP3 and video to audio?

They are used interchangeably. MP3 is the specific output format this converter produces; it is the most compatible audio format for phones, cars and music apps.
