§01 Video Cropping

Why crop a video before posting it

A horizontal clip will not fit a vertical feed, a stray coffee cup sits in the corner of the frame, and the speaker is off to one side because the camera was pointing somewhere else. Cropping trims the picture itself — you choose which rectangle of the frame survives, everything outside it is cut away. Drag the frame above, snap to a preset ratio like 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1, and export a clean MP4 with the new framing and no watermark.

§02 Pick a Ratio

Which aspect ratio fits where

Every destination has a shape. Choose the preset that matches where the video is going, then drag the frame to position it.

Destination shapeWhat it is forPreset to pick
16:9 — YouTube, slideshows, widescreenThe default landscape shape most players expect16:9 — often a no-op on camera footage, a cleanup on mixed sources
9:16 — TikTok, Reels, Shorts, StatusFull-screen vertical where a landscape clip shows letterboxed or tiny9:16 — crop the horizontal source down to the tall center strip
1:1 — square feeds and thumbnailsA square tile that reads at every size in a grid1:1 — equal sides, no wasted background
4:3 — presentations, classic videoSlightly taller than widescreen for slides and older players4:3 — a soft crop from 16:9 sources
Custom — ads, banners, embedded playersThe publisher specified exact pixel dimensionsFree mode — drag the corners to any size and position

Output dimensions are shown live above the export button, and every value is rounded to even pixels on export — video encoders require even width and height, so odd numbers are aligned automatically instead of failing the job. Limits checked October 2026.

§03 How It Works

How to crop a video online

Three steps in the browser — no editing suite to install, no watermark on the result.

  1. STEP 1

    Upload the video

Drop in an MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI or any other common format. The preview loads in the page so you can see exactly what you are framing.

  2. STEP 2

    Drag the frame

Move the crop rectangle with a pointer or a finger; pull a corner to resize. Snap to 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:3 to lock the shape, or stay in Free mode for exact custom dimensions.

  3. STEP 3

    Export the cropped clip

Press Crop video and the new framing is rendered in the cloud. Download an MP4 at the output size shown above — same length, same quality, new frame.

§04 Output Size

What resolution do you get after cropping?

The crop keeps the pixel count inside the rectangle you drew. This table shows the usual outcomes before you export.

Source frameCrop presetOutput resolution
1920 × 10801:11080 × 1080
1920 × 10809:16608 × 1080 (tall center strip)
1920 × 10804:31440 × 1080
3840 × 2160 (4K)9:161216 × 2160
1080 × 1920 (vertical source)16:91080 × 608
3840 × 2160 (4K)16:93840 × 2160 — already that shape

Cropping does not shorten the video or lower its quality — the kept rectangle keeps its original pixels. File size stays roughly the same because the duration and bitrate are unchanged. If the file also needs to be smaller, run the compressor on the cropped result.

§05 Framing, Precisely

Crop is not resize — and why pixels stay sharp

Cropping selects a region of the existing frame; resizing would rescale the whole picture. This tool only does the first, so the surviving pixels are the originals, untouched.

Presets lock the shape

Choosing 9:16 or 1:1 constrains every resize to that ratio — pull a corner and the other dimension follows, so the output never drifts into a weird shape by accident.

Even-pixel alignment is automatic

H.264 encoders reject odd widths and heights. The rectangle you see is rounded to even values on export, which is why the output dimensions occasionally differ by one pixel from the live preview.

Touch works the same as pointer

Drag the frame and the corner handles with a finger on a phone or tablet — the layout is built for both, no separate mobile mode.

§06 FAQ

Video cropping FAQ

Answers before you reframe the shot.

Does cropping reduce video quality?

No. The pixels inside the crop rectangle are kept exactly as they were — cropping removes area, not resolution. The output is as sharp as the region you selected.

Will the file get smaller after cropping?

Barely. Duration and bitrate do not change, so the size stays close to the original. If size is the problem, crop first and then compress the result (linked below).

Can I crop to a custom size?

Yes. Stay in Free mode and drag the corners to any rectangle, or type-free position the frame against the live output dimensions shown above the export button.

What formats can I upload?

MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, WMV and most other common video formats. The output is a standard MP4 that plays everywhere.

Can I crop on my phone?

Yes. The crop frame and handles respond to touch, and the export flow is the same as on a desktop browser.

Is there a watermark?

No. Exports are clean. Guests can crop one video per day up to 250 MB; signing in brings monthly credits for more and larger files.

What is the difference between crop and resize?

Crop cuts away the outside of a chosen rectangle — the kept area keeps its pixels. Resize scales the whole image, which softens detail. This tool only crops.

Reframe the shot the way you wanted it

Upload, drag the frame, export — a clean MP4 at the right ratio, no watermark.
